Ocean Womb at COP 22

I was invited, in November, to take my work with the artistic language of stones to the most important side event of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Marrakech, COP 22, which took place in Marrakesh, Morocco, I had no idea that this experience would add so much to my life. The biggest challenge of COP 22 was to find common methods and establish rules to implement the 194-country Paris Accord, which aims to zero out net carbon emissions by 2050. I wanted to get to know and understand the stones from there, as I always do. But in a market I found ammonites, petrified fossils of beings that disappeared along with the dinosaurs, and which are found in all corners of Morocco. An immense ammonite column was installed in front of the event venue and became the focus of my work for COP 22. It bears the hope that we can hear the Earth’s missing beings, and learn from our history and common origins!
